Essential Question: How do societies and individuals define quality of life? Objective: I can develop language competence. I can identify and conjugate in the imperative. AGENDA Hoy es lunes, el 17 de diciembre I. Repasito Explica como se conjugan los mandatos informales negativos. II. Mandatos Formales-Ud/Uds In English, formal commands are pretty easy. You just use a base verb form (without a subject, since it’s always “you”) to tell people what they should do or should not do: Sit down! Do your homework! Take out the garbage! Be quiet! Don’t use social media in your computers! Don’t speak English in Spanish class! In Spanish, formal commands are little more complicated because we have so many ways of saying “you”:
Formas Regular -AR verbs: 1) Take the “yo” form of the present: HABLO 2) Drop the –o: HABL- 3) “Hablar” is an –AR verb, so add –E to form the command: HABLE Regular-ER and -IR verbs: 1) Take the “yo” form of the present: REPITO 2) Drop the –o: REPIT- 3) “Repetir” is an –IR verb, so add –A to form the command: REPITA OJO! Think of the verb adding the “opposite vowel”: AR verbs add an –E. ER & IR verbs add an –A Infinitive Present tense yo form Formal commands Comer Como ¡Coma Ud.! Escribir Escribo ¡Escriba Ud.! Tomar Tomo ¡Tome Ud.! Entregar Entrego ¡Entregue la tarea! Note the spelling change because of the final –g sound (like we learned before with the tú) How to make the plural form
Comer Como ¡Coman Uds.! Escribir Escribo ¡Escriban Uds.! Tomar Tomo ¡Tomen Uds.! Comenzar Comienzo ¡Comiencen el examen!
¡Levántese! / ¡Siéntese! In affirmative commands, all objects are attached to the end of the verb. Levante + se Levanten + se 5. Negative Formal commands How do we make negative commands in Spanish? Simply put the word NO in front of the command form. ¡No fume! ¡No mande textos! ¡No use Snapshot tanto! ¿What about reflexive verbs? ¡No se levante! ¡No se siénte! In negative commands, all objects precede the verb. No se levante. No se levanten. No se siente. No se sienten Finalmente practicamos: Tienes que crear un Google Doc, hacer la actividad, tomarle una foto a los resultados. Copia la foto en tu documento. Cuando termines entregalo en canvas.
