Verbos reflexivos Today we will learn to conjugate and use reflexive verbs in the present tense in Spanish. In reflexive constructions, the person or thing that does the action also receives the action.

Reflexive Actions and Emotions: 1) Actions EX: bañarse, to bathe despertarse, to wake up (Yo) Nunca me despierto tarde. 2) Emotional Response EX: enojarse, to get angry alegrarse, to get happy aburrirse to become bored enamorarse, to fall in love (Yo) Me alegro cuando no hay tarea. Mis amigos no se aburrren en la clase de arte. These verbs can be used as 1) reflexive verbs or 2) non-reflexive verbs if the action is being done to someone other than the subject. Examples: La madre baña al niño. The mother baths the child. (bañar= normal verb, the child receives the action) La madre se baña. The mother baths herself. (bañarse= reflexive verb, she receives the action) Formation Note: You must always use reflexive pronouns with reflexive verbs. There are two places where reflexive pronouns can be placed, as seen in the example below.
In Spanish, when reflexive verbs are used with parts of the body, they take the definite article (el, la, los, las) rather than possessive adjectives. EX: Ana se cepilla los dientes después de comer.
