There are only two sets of endings for regular imperfect verbs, one for -ar verbs and one for -er and -ir verbs. Also, there are only three irregular verbs in the imperfect. No stem-changes, no spelling-changes. New endings Imperfect: Irregulars verbs (only three) Below is a list of "trigger words" that indicate the use of the imperfect. These words mean "sometimes," "frequently," "always," "Mondays," etc. They imply continuing or habitual actions with no specific beginning or end.

The imperfect is used to describe past habitual actions or to set the scene in the past, what a person “used to” do or “was” doing.
